Standards of practice

Safety is not a declaration. It is a procedure.

Six protocols apply to every veterinarian, with every patient, every time. Below we describe what each of them means in practice, and where you will see it on our website.

STD-01 · ANAESTHESIOLOGY

Pre-anaesthetic assessment

No procedure under general anaesthesia takes place without prior assessment: a clinical examination, blood analysis and a risk evaluation on the ASA scale. The anaesthetic plan is chosen individually, not “as standard for the species”.

STD-02 · MONITORING

Intra-operative monitoring

Vital parameters (oxygen saturation, capnography, ECG, blood pressure, temperature) are monitored by a dedicated person throughout the procedure and recovery. The record goes into the patient's medical records.

Procedure WET-ANES-02: Intra-operative monitoringworkflow with a monitoring loop · table of parameters and thresholds
STD-03 · CHECKLIST

Procedure checklist

Before an operation begins, the team goes through a checklist modelled on human surgery: patient identity, side of the procedure, equipment, drugs, a plan for complications. A routine that eliminates “obvious” errors.

STD-04 · ANALGESIA

Pain management — multimodal

Two operating theatres with separate purposes, airlocks, instrument sterilisation with biological and chemical monitoring, and an audited flow of materials, all following fixed, written procedures.

Procedure WET-ASEP-05: Sterility protocolzones and flow of materials · workflow in 10 steps
STD-06 · CONTINUITY

Medical records and handover of care

Every patient has a digital record: results, recommendations, a record of decisions. Handover between veterinarians and between shifts is structured, so clinical information is not lost “along the way”.

Procedure WET-DOC-06: Medical records and handover of carestructure of the records · workflow in 10 steps · SBAR form

A standard that cannot be maintained for every patient is not a standard.

We update the protocols on the basis of guidelines from professional societies and a review of our own cases.
